Have you written a book in German, published it successfully on the German market, and now want to conquer the English-speaking market with it?
Translations in general and literary translations in particular should only ever be undertaken by native speakers of the target language, and since my native language is German, I have to pass when it comes to translations into English. However, due to high demand, I have started a novel translation service, which you can find at www.ihr-buch-auf-englisch.de (in German).
For this translation service, I searched for, found, tested, and recruited experienced literary translators who are native English speakers—mostly American. My search for English-speaking editors and proofreaders was equally diligent. Together we will translate your novel into English! Please note that we really only translate fiction (novels, biographies, children’s books), not non-fiction.
During the translation process, your novel will be written in English. Of course, your style will be preserved, because that is exactly the art of literary translation: The book is not simply translated word for word, but it is rewritten in English so that it does not read like a translation to the English-speaking reader who will close it at the end with the same feeling as the German reader did. In the case of fantasy novels and children’s books, speaking names of characters may have to be localized; we will discuss such cases with you.
After the translation, I will send the English manuscript on to the editor. The editor reads the English novel just like a reader will do, smoothing out passages they stumble over and also making sure that terms are used consistently.
After the editing process, the translator will get the book back and incorporate the suggested changes.
As soon as they are finished with the revision of the translated novel, I will send it on to our American proofreader. She does nothing but spell-check books and other texts all day long, and is a professional through and through.
And after proofreading, your book in English is finished! Checked several times and flawless, so you can publish it without worrying about bad reviews due to oblique wording.
Would you like to have your novel translated from German into English? Then please send it in an editable format, if possible, to quote@miriam-neidhardt.de and I’ll get back to you with a quote.
